Economic and Job Creation Plan
I recognize that an economy is only as strong as the opportunity it provides for all community members:
- Preserve our timber, fishing and resource-based industries, so that resource-based jobs are a sustainable force in our economy.
- Create job growth in technology by
1) Encouraging entrepreneurs to put down roots locally,
2) Ensuring a cutting edge technology infrastructure and
3) Providing incentives to businesses that sell their products outside of Humboldt County. This creates an infusion of capital in our local economy. - Ensure that existing and new local businesses have access to capital to grow and create more jobs.
- Ensure that families have better access to affordable housing and Healthcare.
- Create incentives for energy-efficient businesses and buildings.
- Work with local providers to expand broadband wireless Internet access to rural areas within the second district, helping to bridge the digital divide and ensuring all families, businesses and health care providers, educators and students have access to this vital technology.
- Create a Blue Ribbon Committee of technology leaders and entrepreneurs to advise the county on helping the technology economy.
- Create incentives for environmental restoration jobs.
- Increase Job Training opportunities; the loss of resource-based jobs has had a devastating effect on too many families. I will fight to ensure that families and individuals have access to job retraining programs.
