    Primary Election Coverage

A BIG "THANK YOU" FROM ESTELLE

I would like to extend a very warm "thank you" to the voters, all my wonderful campaign crew, my family and the many friends who supported and endorsed my recent campaign for election to 2nd district Supervisor. Since the vote was not decisive in favor of anyone on the ballot the election is now slated for a run-off in November's general election.

Once again, my name will be on the ballot and once again I will count on your support and that of the many who are now joining us to secure a decisive win for our community and our future.

Running for elected office is never an easy task and there is much to learn along the way. I can say, unequivocally, that if it weren't for the generous and dedicated support of my supporters and my community we would not have come this far in this first round of the election. As we all know this campaign was faced by challenges very few have had to tackle, namely the tragic and untimely death of my worthy opponent, incumbent Roger Rodoni. I am very proud of how we responded to that tragedy and how we moved forward when it was time to continue the campaign. Now we can all take a breather, relax, and after a well-earned break get back to work. Thanks to the many who have already stepped up to help for our November election. Your enthusiasm is truly inspiring.

    Very truly yours,
    Estelle Fennell

P.S. Please keep checking back for new announcements about upcoming campaign activities and opportunities to discuss community issues. If you would like to endorse, volunteer, contribute or share ideas as we go forward to the General Election you can contact me directly via e-mail, Contact Estelle, or you can call our campaign headquarters at (707) 923 1013 (Redway ) or (707) 725 4321 (Fortuna).

  • 29 May 2008 :: This week the Humboldt Beacon had one final question for the 2nd District Candidates:
  • "What is the one thing you would like voters to think about as voters go to the polls?"

    Estelle’s answer:

"When voters go to the polls, I want them to know that a vote for Estelle Fennell is a vote for positive change. I want them to think about the importance of their vote. Our right to vote is one of our most precious and powerful rights. It is what makes our democracy strong. When it comes to local elections we have a chance to get to know the candidates, meet them, ask them questions, hear them debate each other and become informed about what qualities they will bring to the Board of Supervisors. We can look at their record and tell just how community oriented and effective the candidates are. Make your vote count.

When we cast our vote, we give our stamp of approval to the candidate and we send the winner to the board with a mandate to carry out our goals. In my case that mandate will be a powerful message about positive change. It will tell other board members that Southern Humboldt is ready to move forward with a representative who will stand up for rural values, property rights, and protection of our beautiful environment while planning and working for a better tomorrow. It will tell the county as a whole that we are ready to move on, and we want a representative willing and able to work hard and speak up for all segments of this large and diverse district. For me it will be a mandate to take my pragmatic and common sense approach to problem solving and be the supervisor who puts people first as we revitalize our economy. I’m ready and excited to work hard for my second district community. A vote for me, Estelle Fennell, is a vote for all of us to move forward together. "

  • ESTELLE FENNELL CONVEYS DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE RODONI FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND SUPPORTERS

Estelle Fennell asked her campaign to release the following statement. She will be contacting the Rodoni family privately and is suspending all campaign activities:

"I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of Roger Rodoni's tragic passing. In rural Humboldt County, neighbors are more important than politics. This is a great tragedy for us all. Out of respect for Roger and his family we are temporarily suspending all campaign activities until further notice. On behalf of myself and my entire campaign, I extend our deepest sympathies to Johanna and all of Roger's family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you."
